The fact is that difficult conversations are unavoidable in life and business. Of all the situations we face in leadership, holding a challenging discussion may be the most uncomfortable. And yet, when handled effectively, these moments of truth can deliver performance improvements, deepen the relationship, and become a growth experience for both coach and coachee.
Our Managing Challenging Conversations program is a highly practical 1/2 day course that explores the principles of effective feedback and productive difficult conversations at work - whether in-person or remote. The program equips participants with a set of skills for having difficult conversations in a way that minimizes defensiveness and delivers positive results.
Who Should Attend
Leaders at all levels will see their confidence and leadership effectiveness increase as a result of participating in the Managing Challenging Conversations program. Whether they are a new manager or a seasoned executive, participants will leave with the skills and tools to stop avoiding and start embracing difficult conversations.
What to Expect
Managing Challenging Conversations is a highly interactive learning journey. Participants begin the journey with 20-30 minutes of pre-work reflection, where they identify a difficult conversation they've had and analyze the situation. This pre-work is used extensively in the 1/2 day program as participants apply what they're learning to their real situations.
While we know participants will complete this program feeling inspired, we'll do you one better. This program will leave them immediately equipped and confidently able to:
Effectively deliver constructive feedback
Identify and avoid four traps that can trigger defensiveness
Follow a framework for confronting issues in a way that is direct but focused on coaching, development, and preserving the relationship
Deliver an opening statement that will minimize defensiveness and promote dialogue
Carry a difficult conversation through to resolution and accountability
Manage their emotional reactions
